Art for People News

Hello friends and family,

We wanted to send an e-mail to say thanks to everyone for their support over the last year and to give an update of what we have been up too regarding Art for People Projects and our family travels.

Our family has just returned from a 4000 km bike trip across the U.S.A. and Cuba where we had many super adventures, met many great people and had fun making art in new and exotic locations.

We managed to have a prolific year of art making which was aimed at raising money for a variety of organizations. Through the sale of donated art in 2011, we managed to raise over $10,000 dollars which supported projects in 7 countries (Canada, U.S.A., Kenya, Philippines, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Cuba). We have had art shows and exhibits in Canada, the U.S.A., Nicaragua and Costa Rica with great support and feedback from many people along the way.

We look forward to our upcoming art shows in Victoria (June 23, 2012) and Rossland (June 29th, 2012) and invite you to come and join us. We welcome any questions, feedback, ideas or suggestions regarding fundraising for different projects in the years to come.

We have witnessed the power that art and creativity have in supporting social change and look forward to finding new and creative ways of being a part of this in the future.

Cuba

Cycling in Cuba is amazing.
The people, landscape, food and roads are great.
The internet rarely exists and rarely works.
Things here work in a rather unlinear way.
We fit right in.
we send love from the road..........

The Vinales Valley

Hola!

Como esta!

We are finally on the bikes and life is good.  The roads are in place a bit rough but nothing to stop us.  The hospitality and generosity of the Cuban people is unprecedented.  The food has been excellent.  We have taken to start early to beat the heat.

We have been visiting the valley of Vinales for a week and are biking back to Havana tomorrow following the north coast before heading down to Trinidad.

We love Cuba!

Viva Cuba!

Hello everyone,

We are in Havana Cuba and are completely charmed!  It is such a beautiful, intriguing, fascinating city with sumptuous art nouveau buildings and incredibly friendly people.  We have been staying in a Casa Particular (read B & B) and truly feel like we are part of the family; it is such a great way to really meet the Cuban people.

We are leaving on the bikes tomorrow and are very excited about being on two wheels again.  We will be folllowing the north coast going west and then head south to the Vinales Valley.  I hope to be writing some more in an internet cafe in about 1 week to 10 days.

Sorry for the lack of visuals but I have to wait to be able to post photos.

Much love from our family!

Mural project with friends

We are visiting our friends and hosts extraordinaire, Dan and Nancy, who live just on the outskirts of San Jose.

We just spent a week on the Caribbean Coast and were able to meet with the Sibbald family (fellow Rosslanders) for an afternoon. It was lovely.

We are leaving Costa Rica and flying to Cuba tomorrow. We are looking forward to be on our bikes again in Cuba.

Love

Small world

We are on the Caribbean Coast in the village of Cahuita. Today we went to walk in a beautiful park along the ocean and saw lots of wildlife. Yesterday on the beach we ran into someone from Rossland! Robin who works at Rossland Rec and her two daughters Devan and Ellie. I love it when these serendipidous moments happen.
